Golden Spoon Morning
Looking for the ultimate comfort food that's both nourishing and incredibly satisfying? This Japanese rice bowl is about to become your new obsession! Tamago kake gohan literally means "egg rice," and it's pure magic - hot rice gently cooks a fresh egg as you stir, creating the creamiest, most comforting bowl you've ever tasted.
I love making this with the cleanest ingredients possible - organic brown rice, pasture-raised eggs, and fresh toppings that make your body feel amazing. It's Japanese comfort food that actually nourishes you from the inside out.
The beauty is in its simplicity. Just rice, egg, and a few seasonings create something that tastes like a hug in a bowl. Perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner when you want something warm, satisfying, and wholesome.
CLEAN INGREDIENTS (Choose organic when possible)
Base:
– 2-3 cups very hot cooked brown rice (organic short-grain preferred)
– 2 fresh eggs (pasture-raised)
– Tamari or soy sauce (organic, naturally fermented)
– 1 scallion, finely chopped
– Sesame seeds (organic)
Clean Toppings (mix and match!)
– Extra egg yolks
– Sliced avocado
– Microgreens or baby spinach
– Roasted broccoli

METHOD
Cook your rice fresh - it needs to be piping hot! Brown rice works beautifully and adds extra nutrition.
Portion the hot rice into two bowls while it's still steaming.
Crack one egg over each bowl of hot rice.
Stir vigorously with chopsticks - the hot rice will gently cook the egg as you mix, creating a creamy, golden coating.
Season with a splash of tamari and top with scallions and sesame seeds.
Add your favorite clean toppings and enjoy immediately while warm!
PRO TIPS
The rice MUST be piping hot to cook the egg properly
Use the freshest, highest quality eggs you can find
Don't skip the vigorous stirring - that's what creates the magic!
Perfect for using up leftover rice - just reheat until steaming
